Yorkshire Building Society charity appeal raises £90,000

Yorkshire Building Society has announced that its annual charity appeal has raised £90,000, with the help of a bit of celebrity backing.

The Rising Starz charity appeal, which raises money for the children's charity Whizz-Kidz, was supported by the former Emmerdale actress Georgina Slowe and Ewen MacIntosh, who played Keith in The Office.

Each donation made by Yorkshire's staff, customers or the general public to the appeal was matched pound for pound by the building society's charitable foundation.

Slowe said: "I am absolutely delighted that the Rising Starz appeal has been such a success. £90,000 is a fantastic amount to raise in such a short space of time and I'd like to thank everyone who took part and supported the appeal."

Recently, Yorkshire Building Society made headlines when its Freedom savings account, aimed specifically at teenagers, won an award.
