Saga Insurance: Snow affecting older drivers less

Saga Insurance has revealed that the heavy snowfall affecting much of the country today has not caused a deluge of calls to its insurance claims centre as might be expected.

It attributes the lack of claims to the increased experience of its customers, all of whom are over 50, which means they are wise enough to know how to handle colder weather and when to stay indoors.

Roger Ramsden, chief executive of Saga Insurance, said that most motor insurers are expecting a sharp increase in the number of claims calls they receive thanks to the snow.

He added: "However we have seen no such increase in claims calls this morning, this is because the over-50s tend to use their experience in bad weather and either stay at home or adjust their driving according to the conditions, making them safer than younger drivers."

Norwich Union released data recently which showed that wintery weather is likely to make January the busiest month of the year for car insurance claims.
