Esure: Car insurance claims increase with snow

Esure has revealed that the heavy snowfall which hit many parts of the UK yesterday caused a significant increase in the number of snow-related accident claims.

The insurer said that the number of snow-related claims had already increased by 100 per cent by 11:00 and warned that many motorists would continue to struggle.

Esure warned motorists to be prepared for a long wait if they broke down in the snow and needed to be rescued and advised those who had to drive to take warm clothes and a flask of hot drink with them just in case.

Adrain Webb, head of communications for the insurer, said: "The situation has been made much worse because garages and rescue services are also overwhelmed and they are having to make their way to broken-down cars in exactly the same terrible conditions."

With the dangerously snowy roads and the snow stopping all busses in London yesterday, many people found themselves unable to make it into work.
