Marriage 'can help save on car insurance'

As Valentine's Day approaches, a price comparison website has highlighted one additional benefit to popping the question - being married can help couples save on their car insurance.

Confused.com calculated that the average saving for married couples from the top ten insurance providers is £34, which it claims is enough to cover the cost of a delivery of red roses in time for Valentine's Day.

Will Thomas, head of motor insurance at Confused.com, said that overall drivers could make significant savings on their car insurance premiums by getting married.

He added: "Weddings are expensive affairs; however, it is some consolation that a new married status could save drivers up to 16 per cent on their car insurance premiums."

Confused.com, which was launched in 2002 as the UK's first car insurance price comparison site, is part of the Admiral Insurance group.
