NS&I: Saving can be fruitful

National Savings and Investments (NS&I) has announced it will continue its sponsorship of a campaign encouraging people to grow their own fruit and vegetables, because the skills required are similar to those needed for saving.

NS&I declared their support for the Royal Horticultural Society's Grow Your Own campaign after it conducted a survey in which 90 per cent of respondents said that growing your own is similar to saving.

The poll found that 92 per cent of people believe that both disciplines require patience and regular effort in order to reap the rewards.

Tim Mack, head of marketing and communication at NS&I, said: "We know that growing your own is just like saving in many ways - it helps you financially and your initial investment benefits from good planning and nurturing."

Recently, NS&I announced that the fall in the value of gilt-edged government bonds has forced it to reduce the amount of interest it pays on its savings accounts.
