Skipton Building Society: Savings rates increase

Skipton Building Society has announced that it will increase the rate of interest it offers on some of its savings accounts.

Customers using the building society's Online Access Account and its Online Individual Savings Account (ISA) will benefit from a 0.25 per cent increase in their interest rates.

The changes take the Online Access Account rate to 2.75 per cent and the Online ISA rate to 2.25 per cent.

Tim Fletcher, general manager at Skipton Building Society, said: "We thought it was about time savers had some good news and to give the easiest access to these new rates, we've focused on our online accounts."

Recently, several banks and building societies - including Nationwide - have reduced the rates they offer to savers.

Some of them have blamed their falling rates on the cuts to the base rate announced by the Bank of England in recent months.
