Saga credit card data published

New credit card research from Saga Platinum has revealed that cardholders are becoming increasingly aware of how they use their cards during the recession.

According to Saga's study, 16 per cent of people now use credit cards to ensure their purchases are protected.

If a firm goes bust, consumers are protected by credit card providers for purchases over £100, the over-50s specialist claimed.

In fact, in Saga's own target market, 58 per cent are reacting to the financial difficulty facing many retailers by adopting this cautious approach.

"The credit crunch has affected people in a number of ways and, as a result, have become more wary; choosing brands they trust and using credit cards as they provide added protection in uncertain times," said Andrew Goodsell, chief executive of Saga Group.

Other recent research by the company revealed that 34 per cent of people are thinking more about savings, in light of increasing day-to-day bills.
