AXA warns Britons: Take professional advice

AXA has advised Britons that now more than ever is the time to listen to professional guidance on money management.

The financial protection company said that 80 per cent of people in the UK are more likely to manage their money now that the country is in recession.

However, 72 per cent are unwilling to take advice from an expert - with 58 per cent choosing to go it alone.

Instead of speaking with a professional, 58 per cent would use the internet as their main resource and 52 per cent talk to friends and family - decisions which could be costly, AXA's head of pensions and savings policy Steve Folkard warned.

"With the economy in turmoil, a bit of quick-fix financial DIY is likely to be as effective as putting a sticking plaster over that hole in the water pipe," he argued.

AXA recently took over responsibility for providing investment and protection products to Clydesdale Bank and Yorkshire Bank.
