UK 'still in love with big cars'

A survey published recently has revealed that many people in the UK are still in love with large, high-performance vehicles, despite the fact that they cost more to insure and run.

The poll, conducted by Experian, revealed that only 18 per cent of people would consider buying a car with a smaller engine, despite the fact that it may offer better fuel economy.

Experian also found that just 16 per cent of people would consider buying a smaller vehicle as their next car, with 15 per cent of men saying they would buy a bigger car as their next vehicle.

Kirk Fletcher, managing director of Experian's automotive division, said: "Concerns about running costs are […] causing consumers to be more cautious about their spending.

"However, even when living through a downturn, there is still a reluctance to downgrade."

Recent research by the AA revealed that increasing numbers of Brits are choosing second-hand cars over brand new models, in an effort to cut costs.
