Barclays: Investment ISAs become more popular

Barclays has released figures which show that the number of customers opening investment individual savings accounts (ISAs) has increased recently as the base rate of interest continues to fall.

The bank's stockbroker division has seen a 67 per cent increase in the number of investment ISAs opened recently compared to the same period in 2008.

Barclays' research also revealed that one-fifth of the current investment ISA holders it surveyed are planning to invest more in their accounts than they did last year, while 74 per cent are planning to keep their investment steady.

Barbara-Ann King, head of investment strategy at Barclays Stockbrokers, said: "Whilst interest rates continue to be low, informed investors are taking advantage of the potential long term returns from investments."

Recently, Barclays launched its Golden ISA, which it claims is the market leader in terms of the interest rates it offers.
