Churchill Home Insurance 'finds Friday 13th could be unlucky'

Churchill Home Insurance has conducted a survey which shows that Friday 13th could actually prove to be unlucky for some homeowners.

According to the insurer, the number of claims for accidental damage for various items increased on Friday 13th last month, with 25 per cent more customers phoning in about damage to pipes than on the previous two Fridays.

The insurer also found that 20 per cent more people reported breaking mirrors, sinks and other bathroom fittings on the day.

Martin Scott, head of Churchill Home Insurance, said: "Householders should keep hold of their lucky charms this Friday 13th as our analysis shows that it really can be unlucky for some."

Recent research by the Midlands mortgage provider The Nottingham found that many people are putting off moving house this Friday because of paraskavedekatriaphobia, the fear of Friday 13th.
