Egg cash ISA 'flies the nest'

Egg has announced the arrival on the market of its latest brainchild, a new cash ISA which offers interest at a rate of 2.5 per cent.

The financial services provider claims that the launch of the new savings account, which can be opened online "in minutes", is a response to a survey which found that ease of access is one of the top priorities for savings account customers.

Dean Proctor, head of savings and investments at Egg, said: "Our new cash ISA offers an attractive rate of interest with no catches and is quick and easy for people to open and manage online."

He added that the approach of the end of the tax year means that many people are looking around for new ISAs to take advantage of their tax-free savings allowance.

Recently, NatWest announced the launch of an ISA which pays interest at a rate of 3.5 per cent.
