Prudential survey reveals gloom about pensions

A survey conducted by Prudential has revealed that many people in the UK are gloomy about their pension prospects.

According to the pensions and insurance provider, nearly two-thirds of people who are planning to retire in 2009 are worried that they may not have enough money to live comfortably throughout their old age.

The poll also showed that less than half of respondents believe they have made adequate financial preparations for their retirement.

Keith Haggart, director of lifetime mortgages at Prudential, said that the results made for "unsettling reading".

He recommended: "Rather than struggle through what should be some of the best years of their lives, anyone approaching retirement or who has recently retired should talk to a financial adviser."

Recent research by the Alliance Trust revealed that pensioners currently face a higher rate of inflation than the rest of the population, which means many have proportionally less disposable income.
