Brits paying £2.6 million for broadband

Research released by uSwitch.com has revealed that the popularity of broadband is growing and people in the UK now pay a total of £2.6 million each year for their broadband internet connections.

A recent survey revealed that six in ten homes in the UK currently have broadband access as people in the UK become increasingly prepared to pay for fast and reliable internet connections.

The country's biggest broadband suppliers are AOL Broadband, Orange and BT, which account for around 50 per cent of the UK market between them.

Steve Weller, communications expert at uSwitch.com, said: "Broadband technology has matured and is now more user-friendly.

"As well as faster speeds, it's easier to set broadband up in the home, especially for the growing number of customers using wireless routers."

The government recently unveiled a report which proposes creating a nationwide network of fibre-optic cables to ensure that every household in the country can have broadband access.
