AXA advises of changes to Channel Islands insurance requirements

British travellers to the Channel Islands will now need to take out travel insurance in order to benefit from healthcare there, AXA has advised.

Starting today, anyone travelling from the UK mainland to the islands will need to be covered in order to avoid being forced to pay for emergency treatment, including that needed for accidents such as falls or even sudden illness.

Likewise, the start of this month has also seen the ending of free healthcare on the mainland UK for Channel Islands residents, with consumers warned to check their cover before making any trips.

Alison Patrick, head of travel at AXA, said: "It's important for consumers and business travellers to be aware of these changes and ensure that they have cover if they are travelling to or from the Channel Islands this year.

"All customers that have policies underwritten by AXA can feel safe in knowing that should the unfortunate happen while they are away, they will be covered for the cost of medical treatment."

According to the Press Association's MeteoGroup, the Channel Island of Guernsey enjoyed 202 hours of sunshine in March, with this near-record level likely to further boost tourist interest.
