Ahipp: New Hip rules will help buyers

Controversial new rules on home information packs (Hips) will bring benefits to buyers, according to one organisation.

The Association of Home Information Pack Providers (Ahipp) claims the requirement for all sellers to include a property information questionnaire (PIQ) in the Hip will allow buyers to know more about the home and make them less likely to pull out at a later stage.

At present, the information required in the PIQ is obtained by vendors, but not at as early a stage as will now be required.

"There is nothing new, just different timing that makes total sense," commented Mike Ockenden, director general of Ahipp.

Some sections of the industry have voiced opposition to the new process. For example, Fridays Property Lawyers said that the rules are unfair on those facing repossession, who may need to put a property on the market without all the necessary information so that they can sell it as quickly as possible.
