Halifax Home Insurance highlights DIY trends

According to Halifax Home Insurance, that is no bad thing, considering householders could cause more damage than good by attempting something for which they do not possess adequate know-how or skill.
This comes after figures released by the insurance provider revealed that 65 per cent of homeowners would not attempt a wallpapering job, while 75 per cent would steer clear of doing their own tiling.
Head of underwriting at the organization David Rochester commented: "Trying to tackle areas you are not qualified for such as gas, electrics or plumbing work can invalidate a home insurance policy."
A recent Halifax survey revealed that householders are just as much worried about serious crime in their homes as they are about decorating disasters, with 64 per cent of those polled saying the fear of being burgled often keeps them awake at night.
