Car insurance lies 'would be told by a third of drivers'

Car insurance policyholders have been warned of the serious repercussions that could result from lying to an insurance provider with regards to an accident.

Moneysupermarket.com has pointed out that even in the current climate, fraudulent behavior is unacceptable.

This comes after research conducted by the price comparison site revealed that 36 per cent of motorists would be willing to lie to their insurer in order to receive a larger pay out.

Among those 12 million people who are prepared to flout the law, ten per cent admitted they would never tell the entire truth.

Managing director of insurance at moneysupermarket.com Andy Leadbetter commented: "If you are caught out it could back-fire and be seen as fraudulent behaviour in the eyes of an insurer and could result in them refusing to cover you in the future."

This comes after the website recently revealed that the UK is a nation of careless drivers, with 77 per cent of motorists polled admitting to changing a CD while driving and 52 per cent owning up to eating while behind the wheel.
