Halifax Savings: Customers prefer to e-savings accounts

Halifax Savings has conducted research which reveals that the majority of people in the UK prefer e-savings accounts which enable them to manage their funds online, as opposed to having to visit a branch.

According to the bank, 70 per cent of savers between the ages of 25 and 34 prefer to manage their savings online rather than going into a branch.

Perhaps surprisingly, this trend is also prevalent among the over-55s, with 46 per cent of so-called silver surfers preferring to manage their accounts online, compared to just 40 per cent who prefer visiting their branch.

Flavia Palacios Umana, head of Halifax Savings products, said: "Internet banking allows customers to access their money 24 hours a day whenever it suits them, making it easier for people to make the most of their savings."

Recently, several high street banks, including NatWest and Barclays, launched new individual savings accounts.
