Sainsbury's Travel Insurance: Millions of Brits may be uninsured

Sainsbury's Travel Insurance has conducted research which reveals that millions of people in the UK may be heading off on their holidays without valid travel insurance policies.

The insurance provider conducted a survey which revealed that 1.3 million Brits with pre-existing medical conditions took a trip abroad in the last 12 months without telling their insurer about their health issues.

Sainsbury's Travel Insurance's estimated that 267,000 people with heart problems, 206,000 people with respiratory conditions and 149,000 cancer sufferers travelled abroad and did not tell their travel insurance companies about their condition.

Sam Marrs, Sainsbury's Travel Insurance manager, said: "Withholding key information such as any medical conditions could […] mean your cover may be invalidated and in the worst of cases, this could mean facing large hospital bills."

Those travelling to Europe are entitled to some care if they hold a European Health Insurance Card (Ehic).
