HSBC: Early Bird Student Bank Account launched

HSBC has announced the launch of its Early Bird Student Bank Account, which will enable people as young as 17 to enjoy many of the advantages traditionally reserved for university students.

The new account is aimed at those who are planning on going to university, but would like to get their financial affairs in order before they leave.

It offers many of the features of the standard student account, including a direct debit service. It is upgraded automatically to a full student account when the account-holder gains his or her place at university.

Lucy Payne, HSBC's youth manager, said: "Getting ready for uni generally means running around to get everything ready and sorted before they start.

"Now with HSBC's Early Bird Student Bank Account, that's one less thing [new students] have to worry about."

Standard student accounts are offered by a wide variety of banks, including RBS and NatWest.
