Direct Line Home Insurance: Women should be careful with handbags

Direct Line has warned women to be careful about how they handle their handbags, as many of them are not taking proper precautions about theft.

The insurance company conducted a poll which revealed that one[-]quarter of women do not keep their handbags close by at all times and just 23 per cent check the contents regularly to ensure nothing has gone missing.

Direct Line's poll also found that 23 per cent of 18 to 34-year-olds had experienced bag theft in a pub and 30 per cent in a club, with London being the worst region of the country for handbag theft.

Frances Browning, spokesperson for Direct Line Home Insurance, said: "There are some basic security measures they can follow such as using handbag clips in bars and restaurants [or] only carrying the necessities for that day."

Direct Line was founded in 1985.
