Abbey: Second hand goods increasingly popular

Research conducted by Abbey has revealed that second hand goods are becoming increasingly popular with people in the UK as the credit crunch eats into shopping budgets.

The survey revealed that 34 per cent of people are now prepared to buy second hand clothes compared to 31 per cent one year ago, while 35 per cent would now purchase a used computer compared to 31 per cent last year.

Abbey also found that the number of people prepared to buy a second hand car has increased by two per cent and four per cent more people would now buy their furniture second hand.

Roger Lovering, managing director of Abbey Credit Cards, said: "Britons' current priorities are very much about good financial management and value for money."

Recently, the price comparison website Fairinvestment.co.uk recommended that people in the UK search for the best deals as part of a financial spring clean.
