AA Insurance: Burglars may take cars too

AA Insurance has published research which reveals that many victims of domestic burglary may be left facing a double whammy by thieves who steal their cars at the same time.

Claims data from the insurer shows that around 50 people per day had their cars stolen after burglars found their keys, a figure that is currently increasing by around 15 per cent each year.

Jacqui Smith, the home secretary, suggested in parliament recently that around 15,700 cars disappeared in the UK last year after thieves took the keys during a household burglary.

Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, said: "We are certainly seeing more claims […] where customers have found their car has disappeared off the drive and the keys have gone because their home was broken into."

AA Insurance provides home insurance as well as cover for vehicles of all shapes and sizes.
