The price comparison site conducted a survey which revealed that 43 per cent of people in the UK recognise that saving energy can save them money.
At the same time however, 64 per cent of those who do not have cavity insulation in their homes said that high costs would stop them fitting it.
Similarly 35 per cent said the price of a new fridge or washing machine would be the deciding factor in whether they bought it, rather than its energy saving rating.
Ann Robinson, director of consumer policy at uSwitch.com, said: "[Consumers] are not buying into the major energy efficiency measures because they are worried about the costs involved, are confused about what is available and don't understand the savings they could make."
Recently, the government announced financial help for poor pensioners looking to install insulation to save on energy bills.
