AA warns customers to check home insurance

The AA has issued a warning to customers to check their home insurance policies to see if their bicycles are covered.

Following the theft of Tory leader David Cameron's bike for the second time in the space of ten months, the organisation said that ensuring such belongings are covered is essential.

Simon Douglas, the director of AA insurance, said he is unsure whether Cameron's bicycle would have been covered by an insurance policy as it was stolen when outside his house.

The AA said that insurers would have to be satisfied that the Tory leader had taken adequate precautions to prevent theft.

Mr Douglas added: "Mr Cameron has done the right thing by reporting this crime to Police. Many cycle thefts go unreported, but doing so is essential for any insurance claim."

David Cameron was elected leader of the conservative party in 2005, following the resignation of Michael Howard after the general election defeat that year.
