Confused.com: Save cash by reading own meter

As the government has announced that smart meters will be fitted in all British households by 2020, one price comparison website has urged Brits to read their own energy meters in order to save pennies until then.

Confused.com has pointed out that monitoring how much gas and electricity they use could help homeowners to save cash and the environment simultaneously.

This could also help to avoid incorrect estimates while they wait for a more accurate system, it added.

However, the benefits do not end there, Gareth Kloet, head of utilities at Confused.com, explained.

"Now that energy prices have come down, it is time for people to see if they can save even more by switching to a cheaper tariff or provider," he said.

Confused.com was launched in 2002 and deals with over one million queries monthly concerning a range of issues such as insurance, energy and financial services.
