CCCS: Don't be embarrassed to seek financial advice

Those who have found themselves in troubled waters when it comes to their finances should not hesitate to ask for help, according to the Consumer Credit Counselling Service.

The CCCS, which was set up with the intention of providing people with impartial advice and is the world's first such online resource, is encouraging people to speak up and ask for help in times of need.

Policy and research officer with the organisation Joseph Surtees stated that if people in need of help "aren't sure about talking to anyone on the phone", then they can "email in online and they won't have to speak to anybody" as the service is "completely anonymous until […] you have to make a decision".

He added that taking stock of their finances is an important way for people to deal with the problems of the recession head-on and talking about such issues, if even with a family member or friend, is the first step to tackling them.

According to research conducted this month by finance forum Transact, the average debt of its middle-class customers is £60,000 plus, whereas working-class clients average debt stands at just over £30,000.
