Medical insurance 'should be Brits' number one priority'

Before going abroad for that hard-earned break, Brits should make sure doubly that their travel insurance includes health cover, as mishaps related to health are the most likely problems to arise while abroad.

This is the advice of InsureandGo, which conducted research recently showing that the top five problems Brits have while abroad are medical, lost luggage, flight cancellation, lost or stolen money and delays.

Furthermore, the research found that uninsured Brits had to pay out £90 million last year as a result of mishaps abroad - an increase of 38 per cent compared to 2007.

Perry Wilson, founder of the firm, stated: "The main crux of it is medical problems. People don't understand that when they go abroad, especially Europe, they'll patch you up but you won't get a free ticket home."

However, those travellers who do take out insurance should make sure they disclose all existing medical conditions, as a recent survey by Sainsbury's Travel found that 1.3 million people holidaying abroad last year failed to do so.
