It found that the average British female saver's balance equates to almost 40 per cent of their average annual gross wage, while the same figure for men stood at 23 per cent.
Geographical factors were also examined - with savers in the south-east saving the most and those in the north-east saving the least.
A Halifax economist Nitesh Patel said two things stand out from the research, the first being that "women generally save more in relation to their earnings than men".
"Another is the wide variation in savings balances between regions, with generally higher balances in the south-east compared to the north," the professional continued.
Meanwhile, according to a survey from the National Landlords Association, 74 per cent of 500 female property investors said that buying into property is a better way to invest money than saving.
