Business travellers 'losing out on full expenses allowance'

Business travellers are failing to claim the full amount they are entitled to from their firms as part of their expenses allowances, it has been discovered.

Barclaycard's annual survey found that this year, 61 per cent of those travelling for business are claiming back their full expenses allowance, compared to 79 per cent in 2008.

This equates to 32 per cent of those who do not make claims losing out on half a million pounds over the last year - or an individual sum of £373.

Managing director of Barclaycard Commercial Neil Radley said that keeping track of expenses can be a "tricky" thing for those travelling regularly as part of business.

He added: "Managing incidental and often small costs can drop to the bottom of the list of priorities."

Rather than opting for luxurious surroundings, business travellers value the basics when it comes to travel, as a poll conducted by Finance Asia magazine found that they are happiest when their flights take off on time and the airline food is adequate.
