Three-quarters of drivers say no to hitchhikers, AA research shows

Brits who are attempting to save some cash by thumbing a lift this summer may be out of luck, according to recent AA research.

When asked whether they would pull over and offer a hitchhiker a lift, three-quarters of the 15,000 AA/Populus panellists polled said no. Of the male respondents, 23 per cent said they would stop, while just seven per cent of women said the same thing.

The research was conducted to mark National Liftshare Day.

President of the AA Edmund King stated: "On National Liftshare Day the AA is advising drivers to consider cutting costs by increasing car sharing. It is better for your pocket, better for the environment, better for congestion and indeed better for conversation."

Brits hoping to hitch to a summer festival this year should make sure any valuables they plan to take with them are insured, according to recent advice from MoneySupermarket.com.
