Aviva urges agriculture industry to ramp up health and safety measures

Insurance firm Aviva has highlighted that the agriculture industry remains one of the most risky in which to work concerning accidents in the workplace and has urged those who operate within the sector to ensure they are doing all they can to reduce accidents.

The company highlighted that an average of 46 people are fatally injured while working agriculture annually and, as part of its Simply Safety campaign, is reminding people not to cut back on their health and safety strategies.

"With 50 per cent of full and part-time farmers having diversified business as they look to increase their income source and respond to new and evolving consumer demands, they are faced with new risks," commented Phil Grace, liability risk manager at Aviva UK.

Aviva is the fifth-largest insurance group in the world and offers its services to 50 million customers in North America, Europe and the Asia Pacific area.
