'Just over half' of UK broadband users are happy with service

According to a new survey undertaken by uSwitch.com, just 52 per cent of UK broadband subscribers are happy with the speeds of their service.

The poll found that 45 per cent of respondents - or 6.75 million people - would like their broadband to be faster, while 39 per cent said they signed up for 8mb broadband, but only three per cent are getting it.

A further 34 per cent said they do not know what speed their package is advertised to be.

Communications expert at uSwitch.com James Glynn said that Brits are still stuck with slow speeds despite the introduction of the Ofcom voluntary code of practice.

"The government and providers need to step up a gear and set out a bold new blueprint for Britain's future," he added.

According to tests conducted by Epitiro, the average download speed of mobile internet broadband connections in the UK is currently less than one megabit per second.
