Cheshire Building Society: Personal belongings cover important

People who travel this summer are being urged by Cheshire Building Society to ensure that their personal belongings are covered in case of loss or theft.

Many homeowners assume they are automatically covered should their homes be broken into and their belongings stolen while they are away, but checking the small print to ensure this is important, the building society states.

Karen Torson, product manager at the organisation, said that adding personal belongings cover to a home insurance policy could "avoid disappointment" if the customer is burgled and finds their insurance does not cover this.

She also added that though personal belongings cover comes at an extra cost, one good point is that customers will not need baggage insurance before going on holiday as this is incorporated in the policy.

According to the British Insurance Brokers' Association, insurance policies such as home and motor cover are vital and people should not cut back on these during the recession.
