Nationwide guaranteed savings bond introduced

Those who can afford to put some money aside during the recession are being offered the chance to take out the new Nationwide Guaranteed Savings Bond (GSB).

As part of its Guaranteed Combination Plan, those taking out both a (GSB) and a Guaranteed Equity Bond with Nationwide will receive a four per cent gross AER on a one-year fixed-rate term on the former account.

Furthermore, Nationwide's new Guaranteed Equity Bond with the potential for stock market-linked growth of up to 50 per cent of the customer's original investment can be accessed at the end of six years.

"We understand how important it is for savers to find a competitive return for their savings in this low interest rate environment, which is why we're delighted that this exclusive option is now available," said Nationwide's director for investments Robin Bailey.

The latest index from the firm showed that confidence among British consumers crept up by two points last month, compared to April figures.
