Exercising at home 'could damage property'

Though many Brits will be hoping to tone up and lose some weight in time for the summer, one insurance firm has warned that vigorous exercising at home could damage their surroundings.

According to Sheila's Wheels, reports of accidental damage to homes due to exercise have increased by more than 700 per cent within the last year, with interactive consoles such as the Nintendo Wii rising in popularity.

A poll carried out by the firm found that 20 per cent of females claim to have had an exercise-related accident in the home over the last 12 months and 13 million respondents now own an interactive console.

"Sheila's Wheels urges women to make sure that they have adequate cover against accidental damage in their home before embarking on any indoor fitness regimes," explained Jacky Brown, a representative for the firm.

Research conducted by Deloitte shows that gym membership has become less popular during the credit crunch as people attempt to cut back on spending, MSN reports.
