New car breakdown repair protection introduced by Saga

Insurance firm Saga has introduced a breakdown repair protection which can be purchased by customers as an add-on for vehicle breakdown assistance.

The additional policy offers customers the chance to claim back the costs incurred by labour and replacement parts up to the value of £500 should the damage be so extensive that it prevents them from concluding their journeys.

It covers breakdowns resulting due to failing starter motors, alternators, head gaskets and batteries, among other things.

Chief executive of Saga Andrew Goodsell said: "If you are unlucky enough to have a breakdown the last thing you want is to be faced with an unplanned repair bill before you are able to continue your journey."

Last week, Laura Starkey from BeatThatQuote.com wrote in the Independent that taking a Pass Plus course could help young drivers in their quest for cheaper motor insurance.
