Save some pennies with a prepaid card abroad

Taking a prepaid card abroad could help holidaymakers to guard their money more safely as well as save some pennies, one website has highlighted.

Financial advice site Moneysupermarket.com is reminding travellers that using a prepaid card could ensure that they save £20 for every $500 (£306) or 500 euros they spend overseas.

It also points out that the use of such cards is growing rapidly, although many people still prefer to carry cash or debit and credit cards with them while holidaying.

Head of travel money at moneysupermarket.com Peter Harrison commented that prepaid cards offer competitive rates and are "available to everyone".

"Not only could you get more euros and dollars for your sterling, but you can also make sure you don't go overboard on your holiday budget," he furthered.

Last month, research from Abbey Credit Cards showed that Brits will spend £73 million in unnecessary fees while using their credit or debit cards abroad this year.
