Manchester Crown Court heard how John Kiely charged people up to 2,437 per cent interest on the money they borrowed from him.
Mr Kiely was found to own an £868,000 mansion in the Derbyshire Peak District as he used blackmail, violence and intimidation to extract money from frightened borrowers.
He started up the company Project Finance UK in 2005, despite not having an official licence from the Office of Fair Trading.
"Every single penny saved by Mr Kiely was illegal. It was the proceeds of crime," stated Ben Mills of the prosecution team. The trial is ongoing.
Last month, Ian Jenkins from Gloucester was jailed for eight months at Bristol Crown Court after being found guilty of charging people up to eight million per cent interest on loans they took out with him, the BBC reported.
