Homebuilder Taylor Wimpey announces increase in order book

Taylor Wimpey offered some positive news for the property market this week as it revealed that its order book has increased by 73 per cent.

The group now has a further £971 million worth of orders in the pipeline, it revealed, a development which saw it jump from sixth to fourth place in broker TD Waterhouse's top ten retailer investor buys and sells of this week.

Chief executive of the organisation Angus Rigby said that the announcement has "caught the attention of profit-seeking customers", but caution should still be applied when it comes to the UK's housing market.

Halifax registered a 0.5 per cent decrease in property prices last month, he adds, which serves as a "timely reminder that there is still uncertainty in the market and we may not be out of the woods quite yet".

In 2008, TD Waterhouse picked up a YourMoney award for best online share dealing provider for the third consecutive year.
