The figures, from insurance firm esure, show that Brits are becoming more daring while on holiday, with 88 per cent saying they have previously taken part in an adventurous sport.
However, with fun comes caution, esure reminds, as its research also shows that only 73 per cent of these respondents would think to check that they are covered by travel insurance before indulging in a potentially hazardous activity.
"Taking the plunge into raging white-water instead of the hotel swimming pool considerably increases the risk of getting injured," commented head of travel insurance at esure Mike Pickard.
He added that having an accident while on holiday could "turn a paradise trip into a nightmare".
Launched in 2001, esure offers home, pet and travel insurance, as well as car insurance through Halifax, Sainsbury's and Sheila's Wheels.
