According to a study conducted by Confused.com, this equates to a total of £941,956 for homeowners from the age of 18 to 70 years old.
Insurance was found to cost an average of £1,476 a year for the average household, while rent or mortgage repayments account for most of the spend, standing at £6,182 a year.
A further £1,167 goes on gas, electricity and water, the poll determined.
According to Gareth Kloet, a Confused.com spokesman, these figures bring essential outgoigns costs "into focus".
He continued: "When you see just how much it all adds up to, you can start to see how much you can save when you shop around to get the best deals."
According to Tesco Compare, the key to reducing energy bills is to understand exactly how much is used - something it says can be achieved with the purchase of an energy monitor.
