Insurance fraud team increases at esure

Insurance provider esure has announced that it has increased the number of employees working on its verification team by around one third in response to a reported rise in the number of insurance fraud cases.

The association of British Insurers revealed this week that cases of insurance fraud have increased by 24 per cent over the last two years, a figure that has prompted esure to take action.

According to the insurance group, it has boosted its ranks by a further 27 per cent, in a bid to exercise tighter checks over insurance candidates.

"Insurance is there to help honest people with genuine claims and we're doing all we can to crackdown on people who are trying to abuse the insurance system in these difficult economic times," explained Gordon Hannah, director of claims and operations at esure.

In April, Analysts from moneysupermarket.com said that it is hardly surprising that fraudulent insurance claims are on the rise, considering the severity of the current recession.
