Motorists cutting down on insurance add-ons, says esure

British motorists are reducing the number of add-ons they take out with their insurance policies, a survey conducted by esure has found.

According to the poll, there has been a seven per cent drop in the number of people opting for motor insurance extras since last autumn. An 8.6 per cent fall in the number of people taking out motor legal protection has also been experienced, the firm revealed.

However, the company is urging people to think twice before cutting back on insurance policies they may need, as this could be a false economy if something does go wrong.

"Adding a small premium - in the tens of pounds - makes sense if it could stop your no-claims discount being reduced in the event of having to make a single claim," explains Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure car insurance.

Meanwhile, AA Travel Insurance recently announced that it is incorporating cover into its basic policy to account for holiday firms going bankrupt in the current climate.
