Over 1,000 homes per month 'moved into higher council tax brackets'

Many British citizens are facing higher council tax bills as around 1,000 homes per month are being moved up into higher council tax bands, according to official figures released this week.

The Daily Mail reports that thousands of homeowners are being hit with bills of up to £600 more annually following "secret" revaluations conducted by authorities on their properties.

According to the newspaper, those most affected by the changes are people who make adjustments to their properties, such as installing new garages, double glazing or extensions.

"Ministers insist that a national revaluation will not take place, yet we have inspections being carried out and thousands of homes being moved into higher bands. It is a ¬revaluation by stealth," said Liberal Democrat local government spokesman Julia Goldsworthy.

Being moved up a council tax band for modifying property may not be a problem many young Brits face in the future, according to address changing service iammoving.com.

The firm claimed last week that younger generations are becoming increasingly open-minded towards renting, rather than buying accommodation in the UK.
