Brits 'will save £247 each' by sacrificing holiday abroad

British holidaymakers are set to save themselves £247 each if they cancel their holidays abroad this year in favour of a staycation.

This is according to a poll undertaken on behalf of insurance firm LV=, which found that 25 per cent of Brits - or 12 million people - plan to take their breaks in their home country this year.

It also revealed that 40 per cent of respondents are staying at home this summer due to financial worries, while 16 per cent said they simply cannot afford to go anywhere else.

When it comes to locations, the survey found that Scotland is the top destination for Brits to head to, followed by Wales, Cornwall, Devon and Yorkshire.

A spokesperson for the firm commented: "Whilst a holiday in the UK will not guarantee holiday goers good weather, they can be assured that their plan to abandon trips abroad this year will help keep costs down."

LV=, which employs more than 3,800 individuals and serves 3.5 million customers, currently insures 480,000 households and 1.6 million cars in the UK.
