Natwest and RBS Regular Saver account 'giving 5% interest'

The new joint Natwest and RBS Regular Saver Account is offering customers an interest rate of five per cent, it has been revealed.

Available to anyone over the age of 16, the account offers those who take it out a return of five per cent gross fixed interest for 12 months and can be opened with as little as £25 per month.

A new online and over-the-phone-only account has also been introduced for those who want to save some cash. The NatWest e-Savings Plus and RBS Direct Saver Plus offer flexibility, are available to customers over the age 18 and attract a rate of up to 2.75 per cent AER.

"With our own research showing that around 42 per cent of UK adults don't currently save, this is an ideal way to kick off the savings habit," said Carol Sleith, head of savings at RBS.

Another financial organisation to offer new savings accounts this week is Barnsley Building Society, which launched a range of bonds offering interest of up to 5.4 per cent gross AER.
