'No more free meals' on short-haul BA flights

British Airways (BA) is planning to abolish its policy of offering passengers free snacks on board short-haul flights after the firm hit financial troubles amid the recession, it has emerged.

Passengers on flights of less than two-and-a-half hours will no longer be offered meals, sandwiches or bottles of water after 10am as of next Monday (August 3rd).

Therefore, flights from the UK to destinations such as Rome, Malaga and Barcelona will be affected by the changes.

BA told the Daily Mail that the alterations are hardly surprising considering that the firm "just announced record losses".

"It is not unusual to make small changes to avoid waste and save money where it makes sense and reflects our customers' changing tastes," the airline continued.

Another of BA's initiatives to save money includes requesting that its staff work for one month without pay.
