Scottish government launches £15m sustainability project

The government in Scotland is investing £15 million in a project designed to improve the energy efficiency of around 100,000 homes in the country.

As part of the plans, homeowners will be allowed access to free or discounted loft insulation, free energy audits and greater information on hot to make their homes more energy-efficient.

The plans will also help to create 900 green-collar jobs, including positions for advisors.

"By offering householders help with making their homes more energy-efficient, people will have the opportunity to do their bit for the environment," said Alex Neil the Scottish housing and communities minister.

Households on low incomes will be offered free energy efficiency measures while many will receive visits from doorstep assessors, employed to gather data on a home and to assess whether support is needed.

This news comes after London Mayor Boris Johnson this week allocated £4 million to making buildings more energy efficient in the English capital.
